Who We Are
The Forgotten Liberation of Arnhem Committee started as a conversation between two men from Arnhem in the autumn of 2024. In that discussion, it was realised that the liberation of Arnhem’s 80th anniversary was coming up, and yet again, no events had been planned to recognise the dates of Operation Anger.
Working together with local and national organisations, including Oorlogsmuseum Niemandsland (No Man’s Land Museum) in Gendt, and The Dutch Polar Bears (a group from Rosendaal), Maikel Slotboom became the Chairman of the group and helped to organise the first commemoration for Operation Anger, The Forgotten Liberation.
The first commemoration took part at the City Hall in Arnhem on Sunday, April 13, 2025 in the presence of dignitaries, military, British and American Legion members, and most importantly, families of the men who served in Operation Anger in April 1945.
Since the first commemoration, the Committee has changed form and members, now including a retired journalist and current Dutch military corporal.
As a Committee, we are working hard in the areas of Research, Education, and Remembrance.
